ALTAMONT, NY (NEWS10) – It feels like Christmas in July and at Orchard Creek Golf Course in Altamont they are seeing a lot of green.
“Today is a record breaker for us. Generally we don’t stay open past Thanksgiving”, said Scott Brennan, a golf professional at Orchard Creek.
That’s because the temperatures drop so low but this Christmas Eve it’s so busy they sold out of their tee times and golfers like Brian Sikorski took advantage.
“I mean how can you not come out and play golf on a day like today?”, said Sikorski.
“Everybody is in the holiday spirit. Why not go get a quick 18 holes in before you have to go to the family dinner?”, said Brennan.
Orchard Creek is one of the few places to tee up this late in December.
“There are probably not a lot of courses that have remained opened. I’m actually surprised these guys opened back up”, said Sikorski.
While the golf course is open and business is booming, the weather isn’t helping other seasonal outdoor businesses.
“I know there are people who like to ski and do winter activities. For me if it stayed like this all year I wouldn’t think about going anywhere else”, said Sikorski.
For now Brian is getting in the holiday spirit by putting a hole in one and soaking in the warm temperatures while they last.
“I’m just really happy to be out playing golf on December 24th”, said Sikorski.
