SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A lawsuit against the proposed site for the new Schoharie County Jail was dropped by a group of residents.
The residents wanted to negate the county’s purchase of land along Route 30. Officials said the suit was dropped by mutual consent.
Residents had been opposed to the jail because they were afraid of what it’s presence would do to traffic and safety in their community.
The original jail was located on another site that was heavily damaged in Tropical Storm Irene so that it has not been able to house inmates since the 2011 storm.
The rebuild is being made possible by a grant from FEMA.
