GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Local retailers are crediting the warmer weather to helping increase their sales this holiday season.
The parking lot at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland was packed on Wednesday. Shoppers could be seen browsing in stores trying to find the perfect Christmas present.
But what they didn’t have were hats, gloves or snow boots.
“It’s been very good parking,” shopper Caroline Caccone said. “It’s been great. I’m going to take this coat off.”
The mild weather has caused outdoor parking plazas to be packed, and the registers were ringing all day.
“So far, we’ve had record breaking sales since the past five years, which is really great,” Ten Thousand Villages Assistant Manager Caitlyn Berkery said.
And Ten Thousand Villages isn’t alone.
“It has been nonstop since Black Friday,” ta-da! owner Michael Richman said.
Richman estimates his sales are up by at least 15 percent this season.
“The weather was awesome,” he said. “People were able to get out without sloshing around in the snow.”
So while there won’t be mounds of snow piled high in the parking lots, there will be last minute shoppers like John Kraft who are enjoying the weather and ready to spend money.
“We just moved up from Texas,” he said. “It’s kinda like being home.”
Stores at Stuyvesant Plaza will be open on Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
