600 turkeys handed to Albany families in need

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Several families will now have a great holiday meal after hundreds of turkeys were given away on Wednesday.

Six hundred turkeys were handed out in the parking lot of the Clubhouse Racebook on Central Avenue on Wednesday. They were given out through a partnership between R.J. Valente Gravel and Capital District OTB.

2015 is the second year they made the Christmas gesture.

“When I got here this morning at 7:30 there were people waiting in line,” R.J. Valente Gravel Pres. Roddy Valente said. “Just a good feeling to be able to give something back to people who need it.”

“Hopefully, we can keep something like this going more and more, get more businesses involved,” Albany Councilman Ronald Bailey said. “Great community event.”

Turkeys were given out on a first come, first served basis. At one point, the line stretched out into the street.
