PUTNEY, Vt. (AP) – A 69-year-old Putney, Vermont, woman is facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder after an attack in which police say she bludgeoned her 76-year-old roommate with a blunt object.
Vermont State Police say Fiona Gordon-McLeod was being held at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield on $50,000 bail after reporting Friday morning that “she had just bludgeoned her roommate with a hammer or some sort of club.”
Police have not released the victim’s name, but say the severely injured woman was taken first to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and later by helicopter to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
McLeod faces arraignment Monday in the criminal division of the Vermont Superior Court in Brattleboro. The Windham County public defender’s office confirmed it is representing McLeod but had no comment.
