WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The city of Troy is in mourning this afternoon.
That’s after the shocking news that a top city official Bill Chamberlain, was murdered last night.
The North Greenbush Police Department has info on where the investigation into the homicide is heading. The Chief of Police spoke with reporters earlier, but he didn’t have much to say. What is clear is this was a brutal crime that’s shaken the community.
Neighbors tell us around 10:20 Thursday night, they heard screams coming from the intersection of Powell St. and Marion Avenue in Wynantskill. They say those screams were from Bill Chamberlain’s wife, after she found her husband lying on the ground.
Police say 56-year-old Bill Chamberlain had been fatally stabbed sources close to this investigation say more than 20 times.
It’s unclear why anyone would want to kill the married father of three children, who was also the much liked and respected Director of Operations for the City of Troy.
The chief of Police told reporters during a press conference that they did not have a suspect and that didn’t want to jeopardize the investigation by releasing too much information.
But, he did ask for the public’s help and to call 911 if they possibly know anything.
The Chief says this continues as ad a very open investigation.
