Police step up DWI patrols ahead of the holidays

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – We are just a week away from Christmas and two weeks away from the new year.

Law enforcement agencies are already stepping up their DWI patrols.

Governor Cuomo says State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be conducting sobriety checkpoints starting Friday through January 1st.

Drunk drivers aren’t the only thing they’re looking for.

They are also looking for people texting behind the wheel, aren’t buckled up or distracted drivers.

A similar crackdown last year resulted in nearly 50,000 tickets and More than 700 arrests
