RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say a man was arrested for accusing a teachers’ aid of smoking weed on school grounds where he works.
Officials say on December 14, 23-year-old Richard Mollenkopf III of Harrison Avenue in Rensselaer reported to the City of Rensselaer Police School Resource Officer that he saw the teachers’ aid smoking marijuana near the school.
After filing the report and sworn statement with the Rensselaer Police Department an investigation was opened by both the school district and the Police Department. The school district removed the teachers’ aid from his duties during the investigation.
At the conclusion, it was found that the allegations made by Mollenkopf were false. The school district has restored the aid’s position with the school and the investigation was closed with the arrest of Mollenkopf.
He was arraigned before Judge Robichaud in the Rensselaer City Court and was charged with making an apparently sworn false statement in the 1st Degree, making a punishable false written statement and falsely reporting an incident in the 3rd Degree.
Mollenkopf was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail and held on $1000cash/$5000bond bail, to reappear in Rensselaer City Court on a later date.
