LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – There’s an early birthday celebration for the nation’s oldest armed service.
The New York National Guard is marking 379 years of service. That dates back to before the American Revolution.
In honor of the milestone, there will be a party at the State Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham and of course there will be a cake.
As part of the ceremony, Major General Patrick Murphy and 17-year-old airman Zander Griffin of Warrensburg will be there representing the states most senior and newest members.
