GE agrees to pay for polluting in Waterford

WATERFORD, NY (NEWS10) – General Electric has agreed to pay a more than $2 million penalty after its plant in Waterford put out potentially unsafe amounts of chemicals and then put out false reports about it.

The pollution came from its hazardous waste incinerator.

The justice department says GE employees manually overrode the system nearly 2,000 times between 2006 and 2007.

That override allowed GE to burn hazardous waste violating it’s air pollution permits.
