BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Ballston Spa is getting ready for its big holiday celebration this weekend. However, one business is getting a head start with an open house on Tuesday night.
A tree there is going to be lit on Friday by Santa as soon as the parade through Ballston spa ends. A fountain there also has water from the San Souci. It’s the only place you can get the mineral water when it’s turned on in the spring, other than across the street at the Medbery Inn and Spa with its mineral baths.
“The water is piped in right from the San Souci spring,” said Joanna Romanzo, Owner Spa at Medbery Inn.
Romanzo has recently taken over the spa at the Medbery Inn – revamping it. She says the iron rich minerals mix with the salt on your skin making the bath color a bit brown.
“But the minerals themselves are very detoxifying,” she explained.
These baths are one special on the spas 12 days of Christmas deals. They also do couples baths, massages and treatments.
“Built in 1804 this was a destination for the village folks to come for a gathering after work,” said Dolores Taisey, Co-owner of the Inn.
They found an old card in the wall recently, saying $2 a night.
“There were horses and livery out back,” Taisey said. More recently, the movie “The Way We Were” was partially filmed here,” she continued.
Taisey is responsible for the restoration about 12 years ago which was a vision by the family.
