ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Rotterdam police are crediting a nosy girlfriend and good timing in the arrest of a local man who is accused of taking naked photos of his neighbor through her bedroom window.
According to police, James Panczner was doing time for an unrelated crime at the Schenectady County Jail on the weekends. He left his cell phone at home, and his girlfriend noticed a strange alert comes across phone.
“So she looked into the notification, and that’s where she saw these images,” Lt. Michael Brown with the Rotterdam Police Department said.
“She contacted us, explained to us that she had seen some images on the phone that she had become concerned about, and she turned the phone over to us,” Lt. Michael Brown with the Rotterdam Police Department said. “It looks like a female in a state of undress through a bedroom window.”
In addition, police said they found other pictures of young girls.
“There are also some photos of other people that we are trying to identify at this point,” Lt. Brown said. “Those photographs are nude photographs.”
Lt. Brown said the pictures appear to be selfies taken by local girls, and police are trying to determine how the pictures got on Panczner’s cell phone.
Tiffany is one of Panczner’s neighbors. She and her boyfriend, Brian, said Panczner had once mentioned that he could see Tiffany through their window as he walked to the corner store.
“You are not going to coincidentally see into my window,” she said. “There’s no way he just happened to see me.”
Panczner was charged with Unlawful Surveillance. He made bail Sunday night, according to police.
Lt. Brown said Panczner could face more charges if the girls in the selfies are under the age of 16.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Rotterdam police.
