Juror trouble in ex-NY Assembly speaker trial deliberations

NEW YORK (AP) – A juror in the corruption trial of former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says he has a conflict and wants to quit deliberations.

The juror sent a note Monday to federal Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan. He said he just learned about the conflict. The judge and lawyers are deciding how to handle the request.

Last week, another juror asked to be removed after saying other panelists had bullied her. The judge urged respect and sent the jurors back to work.

Silver, a Democrat, stepped down from his post after his January arrest. He retains his Assembly seat.

Prosecutors say Silver earned $5 million illegally, mostly through kickbacks and bribes. Silver maintains he did nothing wrong and says prosecutors are criminalizing politics.
