ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – People in Albany who can’t afford a new hat or scarf received some free items.
For the past 10 years, a group of ladies who call themselves “Chicks with Sticks” have been knitting and crocheting and donating whatever they make to needy people. This week, they decided to “yarn bomb” Albany.
“Yarn Bomb” means the group went around the city and left hats, mittens and scarves tied to bus stops and various public places with a note that said, ‘I am not lost. If you are out in the cold and need me, take me and keep warm.’
“Normally, we donate to charities like local hospitals and boys and girls schools, and this time, we thought why not let everybody get a chance to see our work and maybe pass on a good deed,” Jody Mason with Chicks with Sticks said.
The “yarn bomb” was a hit. The women put out the free items at noon on Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning, every item was gone.
