Police: 3 dead, child injured in home invasion; officers shoot, kill suspect

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)– Four people are dead and one was injured after police say a home invasion led to an officer-involved shooting.

According to Columbus police, the suspect in a shooting at a South Terrace Avenue home at 5:06 p.m. Monday has died.

IMG_0912Police said the suspect shot four people inside the home. Three people were pronounced dead. The survivor, a juvenile, was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Police were called out to the scene after reports of a shooting in the area. Officials found the suspect, 50-year-old Barry Kirk, several houses away from the scene of the shooting and was shot by police multiple times. A handgun was recovered near Kirk.

Kirk was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead after 8 p.m.

The victims have been identified as:

  • John E. Anderson II, 31
  • Christina M. Anderson, 30
  • Landon E. Anderson, 7

The name of the 12-year-old girl critically injured has not been identified.

Officials said they plan to interview a person who they believe was in the home during the time of the shooting but was not shot.
