TROY, NY (NEWS 10) – A bad breakup turns to rage and violence and Troy Police say the end result is tragedy.
A 44-year-old mother of four is now dead and her husband locked up after trying to run from the law.
News 10 ABC spoke with the suspect’s brother who owns the apartment building where it all took place around Monday morning.
He says he heard screaming and ran to help, but it was too late.
Troy Police say EMT’s tried to do the same, but they could not.
Troy police responded to a 911 call around 5:45 at 3326 6th Ave.
When police and EMT’s arrived they found the Denise Gely barely alive in the first floor hallway.
Police say neighbors and witnesses quickly pointed to Denise’s estranged husband David Campos, who was believed to be on the run.
Police sent out an all-points bulletin to law enforcement agencies throughout New York And in neighboring states.
Four and a half hours later, Campos’ vehicle, a black Chrysler 200 was spotted by the Palisades Parkway Police in New Jersey. A short chased ended with his arrest.
Troy Police say they believe Campos attacked his wife right in front of their children. Captain Dan DeWolf said officers had been called to the couple’s home before.
Campos’ brother was too upset to go on camera.
He did point to a possible motive. He said today his brother and sister in law were scheduled to finalize their divorce in court.
He said his brother was not violent but was having a very hard time letting go.
