Special Report: Tips for staying a fit mom

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – All this week we have focused on super moms and dads, and things that we can do to help our kids be the best he or she can be.

To do that, it takes a little time thinking about yourself too – whether it’s a few minutes of quiet time, or taking time to go for a run. Exercise and being a fit mom is so important.

Matt Phelps will make you sweat. The owner of Metabolic Meltdown came up with his 45 minute fitness routine to get people in and out and fit.

“It really appeals to adults that are busy, working professionals, only have 2-4 days to get to the gym but still can get good results and reach their fitness goals,” said Matt Phelps.

It actually all started after a request from a small group of moms seven years ago.

“You have to prioritize yourself. You have to sit down and say I am going to do this for me. This is something I have to do and just make that time, make it a part of your day,” Phelps said.

Kirstie Harris, mother of two uses her daily workouts to power through the rest of her day with her kids. For her, working out is good for body and mind.

“It’s the 45 minutes just to yourself. You aren’t thinking about who needs to go where or who needs to take a nap or what’s going on at home, you are thinking about you or even nothing it’s 45 minutes a day you are in a zone,” said Kirstie Harris, mother of two.

You can make all the excuses in the world: You don’t have time to go to the gym, you can’t get into a program, the hours don’t work for you, but that’s okay. As Matt said there are plenty of things you can do right at home, we are going to go over some of those workouts.

“Absolutely, you should never let a lack of equipment or a lack of time get in your way, no excuses, no excuses,” said Phelps.

From the overhead press right to the dumb bell swing, you heart-rate will be up, you’ll be sweating and feeling good.
