An E. coli outbreak linked to Chipotle restaurants in Washington state and Oregon has sickened nearly two dozen people in the third outbreak of foodborne illness at the popular chain this year. Cases of the bacterial illness were traced to six of the fast-casual Mexican food restaurants, but the company voluntarily closed down 43 of its locations in the two states as a precaution. BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – New York health authorities are linking a case of E. coli to a Buffalo-area Chipotle restaurant.

It’s the same strain of bacteria that authorities suspect has made more than 40 Chipotle customers sick in Washington, Oregon, California, Minnesota and Ohio.

Erie County officials say Friday that this is the first, and so far only, New York case. It’s under investigation by the county and New York state health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It’s not yet known what specific food may have caused the illness.

The customer ate at the Denver-based company’s restaurant in October.
