SANTA CLARA, C.A. (NEWS10) – In light of last week’s terror attacks in Paris, the focus of security is already on this year’s super bowl.
The game is being held in Santa Clara, California at the Levi Stadium. Super Bowl 50 is expected to bring more than a million people to the area not only for football but for events leading up to it.
The Santa Clara Police Department says they have been preparing for this since it was announced two years ago. Their strategy is to not only focus on the obvious but also on unprotected targets, outside the stadium.
‘We are working with all the business communities, the hotels, the restaurants finding out if they are having any special events leading up to the Super Bowl, so that we are working in coordination with them,” said Chief Mike Sellers, Police Officer.
A spokeswoman for the Super Bowl says the systems that are going into place are the top level security systems.
The Super Bowl 50 host committee says they will be working with the NFL and local police to ensure a safe and secure environment through procedures like round-the-clock security and bag checks at every entrance.
