ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Opponents of a planned $365 million Catskill Mountains resort have taken their case to court.
The Catskill Heritage Alliance says it filed a lawsuit this past week related to the Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park, a large resort planned near the state-run Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. The state Department of Environmental Conservation this summer ordered state permits to be issued for the project.
Now the group is suing the environmental agency in state court. They want a hearing on aspects of the proposed resort they feel the state failed to review adequately.
The resort has drawn strong reactions since it was proposed years ago. Supporters say it will mean more jobs for the Catskills. Opponents say the development would carve up pristine woods and clog mountain roads.
