Verdict reached in Edward Leon perjury trial

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A jury has found Edward Leon guilty of lying to authorities during the investigation into a fatal 2013 fire in Schenectady.

Leon lied about his location when a fire in Schenectady killed David Terry and three of his children in 2013. One child survived. Leon is also accused of lying under oath about the purchase and use of a track phone.

It took the jury less than an hour to reach the verdict. Leon showed no emotion as the two guilty verdicts were read.

The family of the victims hugged and held hands as the verdict was read. Leon’s family said they were upset about the verdict and that at the end of the day, he’s still family.

Leon’s defense attorney, David Greunberg, said he wasn’t happy with the verdict.

“I’m disappointed in the verdict,” he said. “I’m not going to be speculate what the jury did or how fast they did it. They took the time they needed to make a decision, and that’s their decision.”

Greunberg said he hasn’t had much time to talk to Leon since the verdict was read, but he will some time soon.

Leon is expected to be sentenced in March.
