New York to see first legal marijuana harvest in a century

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The governor’s expedition is great news for those who qualify for treatment, and those are only patients suffering from ten specific illnesses.

According to the New York Health Department, those ten illnesses are cancer, epilepsy, HIV or AIDS, Huntington’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease also known as ALS, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies, and spinal cord damage.

So now that the governor has given the green light for access to the drug ASAP, it’s basically up to the five manufacturers across New York State and how fast they can get their products on the shelves. It just so happens that one of our local growers is harvesting its first crop on Thursday. It’s the Vireo Health Facility in Fulton County.

Once the crop is harvested, it just has to be dried, cured and made into oil or pill form because this medical marijuana will not be something you can smoke. It will only be administered through vapor by an inhaler, or pill form.
