ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Although two men have been arrested and put behind bars, police say the investigation is far from over and that includes finding the murder weapon.
Within hours of the arrests, Colonie Police asked divers from the New York State Police to search Washington Park Lake for the knife used to kill 32-year-old Jaclyn Porreca. A portion of the lake is roped off with crime scene tape.
Lieutenant Robert Winn with the Colonie Police Department says through their investigations, they learned the murder weapon may have been tossed into the lake. Lt. Winn says it’s not a big lake but the water here is very murky and there is a lot of sediment at the bottom so it could take some time.
Winn believes 23-year-old Chim Lewski went into the salon with the knife, robbed Jackie, then stabbed her at least twice in the neck.
Police say they believe Chimlewski brought the knife back into the getaway car driven by 32-year-old Shawn Moreland.
According to police, the two are admitted heroin addicts who needed money to feed their addiction.
The search stopped around sun down and will resume later Wednesday morning. In the meantime, Colonie Police are patrolling the park.
