Schenectady school hosts Veteran Day celebration

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Brown School is hosting a Veteran’s Day ceremony Tuesday morning.

The McKenna family will be in attendance, their son was killed in the line of duty in Iraq.

According to school officials, students have already raised over $500 in one day for an organization coined Pets for Patriots.

Brown will also honoring the Blue Star Mothers by decorating pillow cases, filling them with gifts and sending them overseas.

Brown School is opening their doors to the community to honor both local veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces during a special ceremony. The school has been doing this for a number of years and it has become  a very popular and touching event for the community. Among those to be honored include: John and Karen McKenna whose son Captain John McKenna IV was killed in the line of duty.
