Gingerbread home competition to raise money for the homeless

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – It was home sweet gingerbread home on Sunday. Some of the Capital Region’s best gingerbread homes were all on display for a great cause at Crossgates mall.

It was all part of the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society’s 10th annual Home Sweet Gingerbread Competition.

For just a dollar, people got to vote for their favorite house. All of the money collected went toward the group’s efforts to help homeless people in the region. It serves as a sign that the holiday spirit is in full swing.

“During the holidays we hope that this brings people together, brings people that giving spirit, and I hope that they consider those less fortunate this time of year”, said Assistant Director of HATAS Tom Gottehrer.

If you missed the completion, don’t worry you’re in luck. The gingerbread houses will also be on display later this month at the “Evening in Winter Wonderland” fundraiser in Albany.
