ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – With days leading up to Veterans Day, a local group of women in the Capital Region are doing what they can to help support some local veterans groups.
The Honor Flights are just one of the local groups that the “Blue Star Mothers” helps.
Blue Star Mothers collects donations so they can send “freedom” boxes to troops overseas every year.
One Blue Star Mother told NEWS10ABC about the responses she sees from troops overseas. ”
“The response is always overwhelming, we have people coming out in the community to support us, to bring donations. They give money, they bring goods, things that we pack in the freedom boxes like baby wipes, snacks, stationery items, and it’s been wonderful”, said Blue Star Mother Susan Lake Ayala.
Ayala’s son is in the National Guard and said she’s amazed by the response she sees to these events every year.
