Saratoga Chili Challenge to raise money for kidney disease

SARATOGA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Do you like chili? Well, get ready for the best.

Restaurants are competing in the “Annual Chili Challenge” at the Excelsior Springs Conference Center in Saratoga.

It’s a fundraiser for the Northeast Kidney Foundation, and NEWS10ABC’s Meteorologist Nick Johnston is a judge.

The Northeast Kidney Foundation is attempting to raise awareness for an annual fundraiser they host every year. This year the Annual Chili Challenge is being held at the Excelsior Springs Conference Center on Thursday November 5, located at 47 Excelsior Ave in Saratoga Springs. It starts at 5 p.m. Thursday night.

You get to be the judge at this event, having a chance to try several different types of chili. An exciting lineup of area restaurants will be competing to be named the “chili champion.” Plus, you can get some pre-holiday shopping done by vising our vendor booths.

There is also face painting, music, and a coloring zone for the younger attendees, and more.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults in advance and $20 the day of, and $5 for children ages 5-12 in advance ( and $10 the day of.  Children under age 5 attend free of charge, and Military and First Responder discounts are available at the door with ID. Proceeds will benefit the Northeast Kidney Foundation.

This year’s chili challenge recipe categories to judge from are Best Overall, Most Creative, Zestiest, Best Vegetarian, and Best Booth Decorations.

Kidney disease affects 26 million nationwide with one out of every three adults at risk.  More than 102,000 nationwide are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant.  New York ranks lowest in the nation for the number of registered organ donors.  This event will raise funds to support local services for kidney patients while also raising awareness of the disease and the great need for organ donation.
