ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say an Albany man has been charged with owning a stolen handgun.
According to authorities 43-year-old Jose Caraballo-Ortiz had an argument with another person on the night before Halloween. The cops were called and when they arrived the victim said Caraballo-Ortiz displayed what appeared to be a handgun during the argument.
Shortly after the call, officers conducted a traffic stop on Second Avenue of a vehicle being operated by Caraballo-Ortiz and recovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun. Through the investigation, officers learned that the recovered handgun was also reported stolen by the Newport News, Virginia Police Department on January 13, 2015.
Caraballo-Ortiz was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Menacing. He was also cited for operating his vehicle with a suspended registration.
He was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
