SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It’s Friday night and that means high school football is kicking off all over the Capital Region.
One of the biggest matchups on Friday night is a rematch from last year’s Class B title game between Schalmont and Schuylerville. The game brings the 8-1 Schalmont Sabres to the home of the unblemished Schuylerville Black Horses. Both teams have been blazing in the regular season.
The Black Horses will be looking to get their potent offense off to a fast start. In their last game, they rushed for over 200 yards as a team but also completely shutdown Hudson by holding them to just 113 yards and eight points.
The last time the two teams locked up was last year in the Super Bowl, a game in which the Sabres bested the Horses for the title.
Both teams are polished on offense and defense, but in the playoffs, it could come down to who scores last.
“I think this game is going to come down to defense,” Schuylerville senior quarterback Will Griffen said. “Everyone likes to see an offensive game. To quote Vince Lombardi, ‘Defense wins championships.’ If you want to be good, if you want to move on in the post season, you’ve got to rely on your defense.”
