Door ajar, smell gives away big pot grow operation in Massachusetts

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — About two hundred marijuana plants were found at a Fall River building early Monday morning after an officer investigated a door that was ajar.

The officer on patrol saw a door forced in at 379 Kilburn Street, a warehouse-type building, Fall River Police said.

While the officer was looking at the door to see if a burglary had taken place, an overwhelming smell of marijuana was present; from his vantage point, he could see about a hundred pot plants in one room, and a second room with another hundred or so plants. Large partitions separated the rooms.

After the police got a search warrant, they confiscated the approximately two hundred marijuana plants, averaging three feet tall, as well as a firearm, ammunition, and surveillance system video.

Officers are still investigating, and charges are pending, the police said Tuesday.
