Comptroller: NY gets 91 cents from Washington for $1 sent

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s comptroller says the state receives about 91 cents in federal spending for every dollar its taxpayers send to Washington.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says that compares to a national average of nearly $1.22 in federal spending that other states get.

The report shows New York ranked 46th in its federal balance of payments.

In the 2013 federal fiscal year, the U.S. government spent nearly $3.5 trillion, and brought in nearly $2.8 trillion in revenue, with a budget deficit of $680 billion.

That year, New York state generated an estimated $214 billion in all taxes for the federal government, third behind California and Texas.

That was $19.9 billion more than it received in return from the federal government.
