Cairo native watches NY Mets in World Series opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NEWS10) – Work took a Greene County native and New York Mets fan to Kansas, and he got the chance to go to Game 1 of the fall classic.

Kauffman Stadium was electric during Game One of the World Series. There was a strong home field advantage with nearly 40,000 rowdy Royals fans.

But there was some orange in the crowd, including one Mets fan from Greene County.

Cairo native Cody Rogers has been a Mets fan for life. He was 5-years-old when the team last went to a World Series, but he only remembers tough seasons and heartbreak.

By chance, his job took him to Kansas about three months ago, and he said it was fate.

“That’s why they call them the Miracle Mets,” he said. “That’s why I’m going because I miraculously wound up in Kansas, and they miraculously made the World Series, and they miraculously started playing Kansas City. They had to play them in the World Series. So I’m here. I bought a ticket. Had to come see them in the World Series cause you never know when it’s gonna happen.”

The Mets lost 5-4 in Game One in 14 innings on Tuesday.
