TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say following a nearly three week investigation, an arrest has been made in a case of an assault on an infant child.
Police were called to the Griswold Heights Apartment complex on October 3 for a report of a 15-month-old male in cardiac arrest. Patrols and Troy Fire Department Medics were dispatched.
Troy Fire Department personnel say they did an excellent job of caring for the infant child and quickly transported the baby to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further treatment. The baby had sustained injuries to his head that required hospitalization. Police say the baby is currently doing much better.
On Wednesday night, detectives gathered more evidence that implicated the mother, 25-year-old Tabatha Coons of Troy as being involved in the cause of the injuries to the baby. Coons was arrested and held for arraignment Thursday in Troy City Court.
Coons is being charged with Assault 1st degree, Assault 2nd degree and Reckless Assault of a Child. The NYSP in Greenwich assisted in the investigation. The Investigation is continuing.
