SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The city of Schenectady is teaming up with technology companies to bring some new gadgets to the city.
Schenectady has teamed up with Wise Labs and Wink to put in new streetlights as part of the Streetlight Replacement and Savings Act.
The streetlights are smart lights. They are LED, can change brightness, have motion detectors, and can analyze electricity usage. Three of the six new lights will also have video cameras.
Officials said they will improve public safety and also help reduce energy costs.
The new lights will be installed on Jay Street, but officials hope to eventually have them throughout the city.
