Around $2k taken in Colonie armed robbery

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A handgun was used in a robbery of a Colonie store Thursday night.

The West Albany News on Sand Creek Road was robbed around 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, the owner left the store through the rear exit and was confronted by an armed man demanding money. The owner gave the suspect approximately $2,000 in cash, and the man fled in a red car.

The suspect’s vehicle was last seen on Frederick Avenue heading south, according to police.

Police said no shots were fired, and the victim was not injured. There is no surveillance video of the suspect or vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately six feet tall, 170-180 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a mask covering the nose and mouth. He was armed with a black revolver-style handgun with a silver strip, according to police.
