TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York State Police have a man in custody after he allegedly led officers on a chase through the city of Troy.
A trail of debris leading to a wrecked car could be seen around noon on Hutton Street in the city of Troy Monday. Authorities said 45-year-old Darren Favreo was stopped on I-787 by a state trooper for speeding. According to police, Favreo lied about his identity and then fled the scene with the trooper in pursuit.
Favreo drove through several blocks of Troy hitting a school bus at the intersection of Hutton Street and 5th Street. The school bus monitor said he ran a red light, but only she and the bus driver were on board.
Then the car crashed into a tree and parked vehicle where the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot toward the River Street bar area, but police caught up with him behind a local business.
Favreo is facing a slew of charges, including felony Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Police said he also had drugs in his possession.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Favreo is expected to be arraigned Monday night.
