RAVENA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It’s the final week of the regular season and the winner of Friday night’s game will have capped off an undefeated year, won a division, locked down a number one seed and have a full steam of momentum heading into the postseason.
The home team, Ravena, is 6-0 but as only the 12th ranked team in the state. The Indians are hosting class B’s top team, the also unbeaten Schalmont Sabres, the defending Reinfurt division and section two champs.
However, neither Schalmont nor Ravena has played in a close game this season. When NEWS10ABC asked both teams about this, Ravena head coach Gary Vanderzee said “we simulate different situations in practice. That’s the best we can do.”
Meanwhile, Schalmont senior wide out Zac O’Dell told me the young guys may just have to learn almost in a trial by fire circumstance. He also thinks it’s a good problem to have when you execute the way they do.
Now it wasn’t pretty when these two met last season. Schalmont blew out Ravena 59-0, and that hasn’t been lost on the Indians.
Senior wide receiver Logan Frangella says he and his teammates have been waiting for this game since that night and they want revenge, but Sabres head coach Joe Whipple knows about Ravena’s intentions of “wanting to make headlines.”
