ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) – A young bald eagle is recovering at a wildlife rescue center in Schenectady County after it was fished out of the Mohawk River.
Rotterdam Police say they got a call Monday about a juvenile bald eagle that was unable to get out of the water at Lock 8, just west of Schenectady. The bird had been injured and was struggling to remain above water.
Rotterdam Police Animal Control Officer Timothy Longo was able to rescue the soggy bird using a lifesaver ring. The young eagle was taken to a wildlife rehabilitator in the town of Duanesburg for treatment.
