Longtime Capital Region newsman Ed O’Brien dies

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A staple of the news in the Capital Region has died.

Ed O’Brien passed away Tuesday after a battle with cancer.

Begining his career in the 1970’s at a local radio station, he began his television career part-time at WAST, which is now WNYT.

O’Brien then moved over to full time work at WTEN in the late 70’s.

In 1991 Ed O’Brien started at WRGB becoming the the morning anchor in 1994.

A true legend in the area, Ed’s favorite assignments were covering the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics as well as the Saratoga Race Course and the Albany-Colonie Yankees.
