COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A UAlbany homecoming bash was crashed by the cops after close to 1,000 people showed up.
An unsanctioned University at Albany homecoming party was held off campus at a vacant warehouse on Railroad Avenue Saturday night. It would have been a good time had it not been overcrowded by several hundred people.
The celebration was busted about halfway into the night. Police said an extra 600 ticket carrying guests showed up.
Colonie Police said the building was overcrowded, lacked adequate exits, and it could have been dangerous if a fire had started. In the end, most of the estimated 1,000 partygoers, who spilled out onto Railroad Avenue, left peacefully.
Colonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan said the party organizer did not anticipate a crowd over a couple hundred. She said he presented an insurance rider and a signed contract with the warehouse owner Mark Hoffman. However, the party organizer was missing one thing.
“To my knowledge there was no permit pulled,” Mahan said.
NEWS10 ABC reached out to Hoffman, but he was not available.
