Niagara Falls cop accused of beating man with his motorcycle helmet

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The public is getting a look at the Niagara Falls police officer facing felony assault charges after an alleged road rage incident on Interstate 190.

Authorities released the mugshot photo of 48-year-old James Conte, who’s accused of using his motorcycle helmet to beat a motorist unconscious in the town of Wheatfield back on Sept. 5.

The alleged victim accused Conte of tailgating him and confronting him off the highway before getting violent.

Conte, who was off-duty at the time, has been placed on administrative leave.

He’s expected to be in court on Oct. 20.
