Funding announced to build affordable housing from Superstorm Sandy, other storm damages


ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York state is setting aside $20 million to build affordable housing units in communities damaged by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Local housing officials and developers from more than 30 counties are eligible to apply for a portion of the money.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the investment is intended to help local communities build safer and more resilient affordable housing that can withstand future storms.

The money is coming from federal disaster recovery funds.
