JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Fulton County teen is facing charges after police say he stole a van and crashed into several other vehicles.
Police say 18-year-old Antonio McCloskey stole a van from Gloversville, and it broke down near a Johnstown home but not before causing damage to property and vehicles along the way.
One homeowner was awoken bright and early to a knock on his door. It was police saying his car had been stolen.
“7:30 in the morning, cops banging on my door,” Craig Minch said.
According to police, McCloskey abandoned the stolen van near Minch’s house on E. Clinton Street. He then stole Minch’s Audi.
“They just asked to see my hands because inside my car and the van there was tons of blood,” Minch said.
McCloskey was arrested and arraigned on a felony charge of Grand Larceny but more charges are pending. Police said when they tracked down McCloskey, he told officers he was playing ‘Grand Theft Auto.’
“Not cooperating with police, he was laughing, he was screaming random words,” Minch said. “The cops told me he was on something.”
For now, Minch is waiting to get his car back, and he said it could have ended a lot worse for the young man.
“He’s taken out mail boxes damaged cars,” Minch said. “Hopefully, he makes better life changes.”
McCloskey is in Fulton County Jail on $20,000 cash bail.
Both the van and the car are being held as evidence.
