Pilot, 82, crashes experimental plane, isn’t injured

BRANT LAKE, N.Y. (AP) – An 82-year-old Saratoga County man has crashed a small experimental plane, but walked away unharmed.

State police say George Wiederkehr of Ballston Spa crashed his plane Monday in the Warren County hamlet of Brant Lake. Police say he tried to land at a nearby airfield because the plane was low on fuel, but decided he couldn’t make it and attempted an emergency landing in a field.

Police say the single-engine plane flipped onto its roof when it landed.

Wiederkehr is a flight instructor with the Adirondack Soaring Club in Saratoga Springs. Police say he had taken off from Lake Placid.
