WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A conference scheduled in the case against Joshua Spratt happened on Tuesday.
He’s the former high school resource officer accused of having sexual contact with students. Spratt was arrested on a sealed indictment back in July. He has pleaded not guilty in court to charges of criminal sex act, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct.
School officials say they alerted police when they started hearing rumors at the end of last year. Watervliet Police then notified state police, who handled the investigation.
After Tuesday’s appearance, he is left due back on October 6th.
Spratt’s arrest was just the beginning of trouble this summer for the Watervliet Police Department.
Former Officer Nicholas Pontore was arrested less than a month later, he’s accused of buying large quantities of drugs while on duty and also, providing protection for a local gang.
Pontore resigned in June after his dealer was arrested.
According to the chief a third officer, Sam Razzano, is also under investigation by State Police. What he’s being investigated for is not clear.
He’s been placed on administrative leave.
