ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – There always seems to be some food in the pantry we have no clue what to do with, or why we bought it in the first place.
Well starting on Wednesday, people who have late fees from overdue parking tickets will be able to eliminate that late fee in exchange for a food donations. It’s all part of a new parking amnesty program called Food for Fines passed by Albany’s Common Council Monday night.
Now the program just eliminates the late fee – the amount of the parking tickets must still be paid.
Officials with the city are asking for two nonperishable, unexpired and unopened items per ticket.
Donations will be taken at the Parking Ticket Violations Bureau at the second floor of City Hall, 24 Eagle Street, and payments of tickets can be made at City Hall, by mail, or online at www.albanyny.gov. Individuals may also donate directly to The Food Pantries for the Capital District at www.thefoodpantries.org.
