ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state environmental officials say they will release about 30,000 pheasants for this fall’s hunting season.
Pheasant season starts on Oct. 1 in northern and eastern New York and on Oct. 17 in central and western New York. The season starts on Nov. 1 on Long Island.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says the 30,000 adult pheasants will be released on lands open to public hunting around the state. A map of the release sites is available on the department’s web site.
Pheasants are raised on a game farm in Ithaca and released just before and during hunting season.
