Lansingburgh arson suspects back in court

LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Two men accused of starting a fire in Lansingburgh that ultimately led to an elderly woman’s death are back in Rensselaer County Court.

David Stanley and Tyler Smith are accused of setting fire to an apartment building on Second Avenue that left numerous residents homeless. According to officials, 82-year-old Grace Halpin was hospitalized following the fire, and later died.

In court on Monday, officials obtained Stanley’s clothes that smelled of gas. The clothes of Tyler smith were left at another woman’s home. The clothes had unknown male DNA on them. Smith had cuts and burns and smelled of gas. According to Abby Slaga’s statement giving a guilty plea last week, it will be part of the people’s application Evidence tech on hand.

A third person in this case, 21-year-old Abbey Slaga, admitted in court Friday she was involved in this arson case.
