LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — May the ‘Force Friday’ be with you!
It’s the day many Star Wars fans have been waiting for as they get their hands on some new themed toys ahead of December’s big movie release.
Target in Latham was one of a handful of stores in our area opening their doors at midnight to give die-hard Star Wars fans the first chance to grab some toys. There are 316 new toys; everything from a new Jedi master lightsaber, Poe’s X-wing and new collectable figurines.
A good crowd of long-time fans, as well as a new generation lined up to check out the toys.
Since the original film’s release in the 70’s, Star Wars has been as much about merchandising as about the movies themselves.
“I love Star Wars. I grew up on Star Wars. I feel like a kid again waiting for the next Star Wars,” said a midnight shopper.
Target, Walmart and Toys “R” Us are all carrying the assortment of toys. Star Wars, The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18.
If you prefer Star Trek to Star Wars, Ticonderoga is the place to be this weekend – or maybe we should call it “Trekonderoga.”
A Star Trek convention kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday at North Country Community College. It’s a weekend full of Star Trek related events; even several question and answer sessions with stars of the series.
Autograph sessions and tours of the Star Trek new voyages studio are also planned.
For more information, you can search Trekonderoga on Facebook.
