LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The 2015 high school football season kicks off Friday night, and CBA vs. Shaker is the first NEWS10 ABC Game of the Week.
The Blue Bison will host Christian Brothers Academy Friday night. The two teams have not only won two of the past three Class AA Superbowls, but they know each other quite well.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two in the last 12 games with the Brothers winning the previous three, including last year’s Class AA semifinals.
However, this is a brand new year.
At Shaker, head coach Greg Sheeler has a group featuring 31 seniors, including three Division 1 commits, who have captured three straight Liberty Division titles and going undefeated each time.
Meanwhile, the Brothers went 6-1 in 2014 falling to Shenendehowa High School in the Super Bowl. It was their second consecutive appearance in the finale winning in 2013.
But head coach Joe Burke returns just five starters from one season ago. Of those, is third-year starting quarterback Joe Kolbe who believes Friday’s game will be huge.
“They have a lot of great weapons, and we really just have to make sure that we play our game,” he said. “We don’t wanna go out and say, ‘We’re gonna pinpoint on this one kid or we’re gonna pinpoint on this other kid.’ We have to play CBA football, and if we do that, I think that everything will just play itself out.”
“They’re well-coached team, and they’re gonna be good,” Sheeler said. “They’re good every year, and we think that we’ll give them a good game and be competitive.”
